95 Revolutionaries Arrested in Turkey: Fascist State Targets Socialists, Youth, and Journalists – Freedom Now!
On February 3, 95 revolutionaries, socialists, trade unionists, journalists, environmental activists, artists, and anti-fascists were arrested in raids across 22 cities in Turkey. They are members of the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP), the Socialist Women’s Councils (SKM), the Federation of Socialist Youth Associations (SGDF), the young women’s organisation ÖGK, the arts and culture association BEKSAV, the Etkin News Agency (ETHA), the environmental organisation Polen Ekoloji, and the trade union DİSK/Limter-İş.
House raids and illegal arrests are typical tactics used by the fascist Turkish state to prevent revolutionary organising in all areas of life for workers and oppressed people in Turkey and North Kurdistan. These attacks aim to delegitimise the revolutionary struggle in Turkey and North Kurdistan. The evidence presented by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office offers no justification beyond abstract accusations, such as Google Meet meetings. These claims aim only to delegitimise the struggle and clearly show that they are baseless. While the struggle the socialists continue in Turkey in the face of fascism is legitimate and justified – especially at a time when the Rojava Revolution is under attack, when US imperialism and its henchmen Turkey and Israel are trying to expand their influence in the Middle East – as organisations in Europe, we declare that we stand on the side of all revolutionaries and socialists who were arrested.
The achievements of revolutions and revolutionary movements around the world are under liquidationist attacks and must be defended internationally!
While the dictator Erdoğan continues his hunt on all progressive struggles, we call to the streets against the European states complicit in wars and fascist regimes.
As socialist youth, we stand by especially the revolutionary youth SGDF in Turkey!
We demand the immediate release of all those who have been arrested!
The youth is the future, the future is socialism! Hope cannot be shackled!
